Parents often wonder what they can do to further enrich their child’s education besides helping with homework.  One way is to expose them to the arts!  As the PTA Cultural Arts chair, Teri Garcia is here to help you do that.  We have some programs at Keeth that we would like to tell you about.

Art-See:  This is a program that cultivates an awareness and appreciation of art.  Each month volunteers go into the classrooms to show a print, artifact or sculpture.  The idea is to expose the students to art and to get them talking about it.  Volunteers are needed!  Keep in mind that volunteers do not need to be art experts.  You just need to have a desire to participate in your child’s education and an enthusiasm for bringing art to the students.  If you would like to be an Art-See volunteer, please contact the Art-See Coordinator, Janene Black, at 407-696-9938 or by email .

Empty Bowls:  This is a community service project in which participation takes place in 1st and 5th grades.  The students create clay bowls with the help of volunteers.  Once the bowls are done, they’re displayed at a luncheon at which everyone who attends gets to take a bowl home.  All of the proceeds go to feed the homeless.  If your child is in 1st or 5th grade, please consider helping out with this worthwhile and enriching project.

Reflections:  This is a national PTA arts program.  Students in pre-K through 12 are invited to interpret the theme “My Favorite Place…” through literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography, or film/video production.  All works are judged first locally and then by district, state and then national.  This is a great way for students to express themselves and to receive recognition for their artistic efforts.

If you’re interested in assisting with Empty Bowls or Reflections or just want more information, please contact Teri Garcia at 407-695-2281 or by email .

Thanks for supporting the Arts!
